Simplicity

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but there are an abundance of women who have made a big business out of telling the rest of us how we should be living.  Some may be cooks, some interior decorators some talk show hosts however whatever it is they do, they think the rest of us should aspire to be just like them and doing so will without a doubt enhance the quality of our lives.  Oh, and did I mention spend lost of money buying their products while we do it?   I find this particularly ironic considering the newest offering by this select group of women is step by step instructions on how to simplify our lives.

Life became complicated when we started to think stuff was necessary to live a happy life.   When stuff replaced the people we hold close, the conversations we have with them and the time we spend together.  When the traditions we once looked forward to celebrating year after year with those which we love and the new memories we make have become inconvenient  and are no longer as important as the clothes we wear, the houses in which we live and cars that we drive.   When our jobs, careers and the amount of money we make define who we are and measure our importance as opposed to those who love us.

I can't help but find it interesting that every one of the lifestyle shows I can think of features a happy family and abounds with loving, close friendships.   They feature lots of laughter, big meals  as well as perfect hair, makeup and wardrobe, you know just like the real world.   What it all boils down to is that we have forgotten God and taken Him out of our lives.  We have replaced humility and thankfulness with greed and a sense of entitlement and are oblivious to the number of idols we have in our lives.  We don't need television personalities to tell us how to lead happy, content and fulfilled lives.  And we certainly don't need them to instruct us in the art of simplifying our lives.

We already have an instruction manual which was written for each of us thousands of years ago.  It provides us with everything we need to know about life and how to live it and all of the answers to life can be found within it's pages.  It was written by God and it is called the Bible.

Until we meet here again, I pray God bless you and keep your loved ones safe.

Tracy
