This year fall was extremely slow in coming to Kentucky and for awhile it seemed as if it would never arrive. The temperatures remained warm well into October, the grass still required regular mowing and the leaves on the trees showed not a hint of color other than green. Yes it seemed as if summer had no intentions of stepping aside and allowing autumn to move in and provide much needed rest to world of nature. I and many others grew weary of summer and restlessly and impatiently yearned for autumn.
And then all at once, seemingly overnight, we awoke and there appeared the slightest twinges of color on the leaves. And while the temperatures did not yet necessitate a sweater the feeling of summer had finally left the air. Each day thereafter the beauty God painted on his outdoor canvas became more vibrant and breathtaking. The distinctive smell of autumn which cannot be described in words permeated the air and a blanket of gold and red and brown leaves covered the ground like a carpet.
Today as I look out the window at my desk facing the woods I am completely awestruck by God and the splendor and beauty of the world He created for us. For me and for you. And I ask myself as I sit and gaze at this sight which no human hand could paint, will I ever learn to yield to patience? Will I ever learn to enjoy the journey and let patience have her perfect work?
I realize I have missed much in life anxiously hurrying thru today to get to tomorrow only to repeat the same. Oh I am much better than I used to be, which I owe to God and age but I am nowhere near where I want to be, where I need to be to fully take in all of the blessings and gifts God gives me. God never intended for us to rush and push thru our lives but rather He wants us to savor and cherish each breath and every moment He gifts to us. To not do so cheats no one but ourselves.
Until we meet here again, I pray God bless you and keep your loved ones safe.
