We are on the doorstep of embarking on what is commonly thought of as the most wonderful, magical time of the year. The Christmas Season. Accompanying all the wonder and magic the season offers comes lists of things to do, gatherings to attend, things to make and things to buy. Oh yes, what would the holidays be without the list of people that the retail industry tells us we must buy gifts for lest we be accused of being a Scrooge!
If the thought of your own endless list of people you must find gifts for this year has just caused you to break out in hives rest assured. The retail industry in its endeavor to make the season more bright for all, has come up with a full proof solution to solve any gift buying dilemma you might have. Gift Cards! The perfect gift for anyone and everyone. No size required. No age requirement. You need not even know the person the gift is for. And no thinking or thought whatsoever is required on the part of the giver. All that you do need to do is select a dollar amount you wish to give and pick what type of card you wish to give.
Especially good news to the givers is that according to Fox News gift cards are the number one requested gift item this year. And it seems gift cards are being requested by all age groups, which perhaps is the first thing everyone has agreed on since the beginning of time. Now call me antiquated in my thinking, but when I heard this shocking fact, I thought to myself how ignorant is that? I mean really if everyone gives everyone they know a gift card and if everyone gives them a gift card doesn't that pretty much cancel out the gifts you gave one another? At that point why don't we just skip the formality of giving a gift card and go directly to the store and buy our own gifts?
I myself have rejected the whole commercial aspect of Christmas for years. I mean think about how much pressure and stress gift giving puts on you and how much it detracts from the enjoyment of the season. You must come up with a gift idea for everyone on your list, which they may or may not like or need and spending money you don't really have. All because a big business industry needs to make money and you are they way they make it. In my mind Christmas is supposed to be about love and kindness and spending time making memories with those that mean the most to you. Helping those in need and less fortunate than you. Call me old fashioned but when I give a gift, homemade or store bought, it's been chosen for the recipient with much thought and love. And most important of all, there would be no reason to celebrate if it were not for the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Until we meet here again, I pray God bless you and keep your loved ones safe.
