Applesauce Cinnamon Cutout Ornaments-FOR DECORATION ONLY


1 cup applesauce 

1 1/2 cups cinnamon

1/3 cup white glue (Elmer's)

Needed items: Cutting board, Rolling Pin, Cookie cutters, Straw, Cooling rack, Scissors, Baling twine or

Fabric strips 


Step 1: Mix applesauce, 1 cup cinnamon and glue, forming a dough ball.  Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes to make it firm.  

Step 2:  Sprinkle remaining cinnamon on cutting board and roll out dough to a 1/4 inch thickness.  Avoid getting dough too thin or cutouts could break.  If it's too thick, it will take longer for cutouts to dry.

Step 3:  Cut dough with cookie cutter.

Step 4:  use the straw to punch a hole in to top center of each cutout where you will put the string to hang the ornaments.  Large cutouts may require two holes spaced evenly.

Step 5:  Place cutouts on a cooling rack and allow them to dry for two days.  

Step 6:  When cutouts dry and change color from deep to light brown, thread twine up through the hole and tie the knots together and hang.

Note:  To the dough mixture I have added ground clove, nutmeg, ginger, etc.  Any combination of spices to add additional fragrance.  If desired after cutouts have dried you may decorate anyway you wish before hanging.
