Who do I know would be working on air conditioning on one of the coldest days of the year? Hmmmmmmm, you guessed it Jackie. That's right you read me correctly, the ole' boy is working on getting his end of our new central heat and air conditioning ready for the HVAC company to do their part.
When Jackie built our house he did not install central heat and air conditioning nor was the house fitted with duct work. We have to date cooled the house with old fashioned window units and heated with baseboard heaters and a wood stove. After battling issues with window a/c units the last several years we decided it was time to come into the 21st century and add the central units.
The big hurdle we had to overcome was where to put the unit and how to get the cost down to a manageable amount we were comfortable with. Neither of us felt having the duct work put in the attic was a good option for us and the cost was exorbitant. So as with the majority of our plans we brainstormed and between the two of us we eventually came up with a good plan consisting of outside the box thinking. Since our house is a straight shot, we are going to run the duct work in the house and then cover it with wood to make it look like a beam. It will look beautiful and most importantly it will work great at keeping us cool in the summer and warm in the winter when it is to warm for the wood stove.
And as an added bonus to save some money, the contractor has agreed to let Jackie do the duct work and the pad work for the outside part of the unit. This was very pleasing to Jackie as since he built the house himself he likes to do all improvements himself and while he can't do all of this himself he will have a big hand in it. He already has the duct work ready to hang which from what I understand he has assistance lined up to hang this weekend. Many people would dread the thought of all this work, but not my Jackie. He loves to work and have a project going and considers it a gift from God that he is able to do these things. God blessed him with many skills and he takes full advantage of them all. Stay tuned for further updates!
Until we meet here again, I pray God bless you and keep your loved ones safe.
